Bruce Sexton Joins APH Team as Director of Access and Belonging

APH is excited to welcome Bruce Sexton as the Director of Access and Belonging. From his fellowship at the National Industries for the Blind, to helping establish a school for the blind in India and working with Clusiv Inc. as the Director of Community Engagement, Bruce has had an extensive career serving the blind and low vision community.

Bruce said, “My background with curriculum development for Clusiv and accessibility website testing has allowed me to grow my expertise and rise within the ranks into leadership roles where I can better serve the blind and low vision community. My mission in life is to empower people who are blind or low vision to meet their full potential. I had to fight for my education from a young age, and I’m excited to work at a nonprofit that champions education and braille literacy. This job is a culmination of all I have worked all my life so diligently to achieve.”

In his new role, Bruce will ensure APH has a culture of access and belonging. He will work with departments to implement strategies, policies, and philosophies that address the needs of all employees, thereby positioning APH as an example to the local, national, and international communities.

“Everything we do at APH needs to be filtered through lenses of blind logic, assumed competency, and blind informed decision-making,” Bruce said. “When we achieve that, then we, the blind and low vision, will truly feel as though we have a voice at every table on every level. We won’t just feel as though we belong. We will know it with absoluteness. And that, my friends, is just the beginning!”

Bruce has a bachelor’s degree in Multidisciplinary Studies from the University of California at Berkley and a jurist doctorate from the University of Syracuse College of Law. He is a proud father of two beautiful children. Bruce lives in Louisville.
