Discover Accessible Crossword Puzzles
If you used to love crossword puzzles and have not found a good way to solve them with no or low vision, APH’s free Crossword web app, especially combined with a subscription to the New York Times puzzles, is an excellent way to indulge your passion while social distancing. New to crossword puzzles? Never fear! We have instructions and free examples for you to try!
Free NYT Puzzles
The New York Times offers an archive with puzzles created by world-class masters. We even put together a few free examples from 2009.
To start just click any of the links below, and the browser will launch the Crossword app and load up the selected puzzle, ready to solve.
There are in-app instructions if you need assistance, just activate the Options button and select User Guide from the menu that appears.

Remember, when you activate the links from the New York Times page listed above, your browser will download the puzzle file. To open the downloaded file, launch Crossword at crossword.aphtech.org, then activate the Options button and select the Open menu item. Find the file you downloaded and select it to start solving.
New NYT Puzzles Every Day!
If you want to solve current puzzles, you can subscribe to the New York Times crossword puzzles for about $7 per month or $40 per year. If you do subscribe, it is super easy to load today’s puzzle, or any other one, by going to crossword.aphtech.org and selecting the Options button and picking Open from New York Times. This opens a simple dialog ready to load today’s puzzle. Just press Enter to start solving. You can also change the date to load any puzzle from the past several years.
So, if you are new to crossword puzzles, here is a place to try some of the best in the world with the most accessible interface available. As you try them, note that the easiest puzzles appear on Mondays, and they get progressively more difficult throughout the week until you get to the ultimate famous Sunday edition.
