Learning Body Part Names in the Bath

This is the way we wash your… Let’s learn the names of body parts while taking a bath!

Appropriate Age Range: any age that is learning body part identification

Materials Needed:

• washcloth
• soap
• towel

Vocabulary: 

Try looking these words up if your child is unfamiliar with them: arms, legs, stomach, head, hair, eye, ears, nose, mouth, neck, hand, fingers, elbow, knee, back, toes, ankle, etc.

Activity:

• Sing the “Rub A Dub Song”  (to the tune of “The Mulberry Bush”) as your child bathes. Clean the parts of their body that correspond as you sing the song.
• If your child has a baby doll or stuffed animal that you are comfortable getting wet, give the doll or stuffed animal a “bath” and sing the song while cleaning the doll or stuffed animal.

Outcome: If your child doesn’t enjoy bath time, did they tolerate it better with the singing? If your child does enjoy bath time, are they able to anticipate what body part is going to be washed next by raising that body part or leaning in?  Are they able to point or touch any body part(s)?
